Hollywood Star Penny Marshall, who rose to fame in TV’s “Laverne & Shirley” before moving to direction of beloved films as “Big” and “A League of Their Own,” has died. She was 75.
She was the daughter of a tap dance teacher i.e Marjorie Marshall and Tony Marshall, a film director and producer. Her family background belongs to entertainment.
She was the first woman to direct a film that grossed more than $100m with Big, starring Tom Hanks- 1988 comedy.
She died at her home in Hollywood Hills on December 17, 2018, at the age of 75,due to diabetes complications.
Following Penny passing, her ex-husband Rob Reiner took to Twitter to say: “I loved Penny. I grew up with her. She was born with a great gift. She was born with a funnybone and the instinct of how to use it. I was very lucky to have lived with her and her funnybone. I will miss her”.
Hanks wrote: “Goodbye, Penny. Man, did we laugh a lot! Wish we still could. Love you. Hanx.”
Major League Baseball tweeted : “We join the baseball community in mourning the passing of Penny Marshall, director of A League of Their Own She also directed A League of Their Own, Jumpin’ Jack Flash and Awakenings.
